Meet The Team - Kate

I’ve been working in corporate film production for 13 years – ever since I graduated from Leeds University. I cut my teeth at a small production company in Paddington, working in a team of 4 people for a former BBC news correspondent, which was incredibly hands-on and I had to learn very quickly - producing, directing, and sometimes even editing when the need arose! Working with a journalist gave me a really good understanding of script writing, as well as the overall production process.

After 7 years there I decided it was time for a bigger challenge - so I approached the Edge, and the rest is history…  When I first talked to The Edge about joining, one of the factors that impressed me most about the company was the longevity of so many of its staff. There were people who had been around for 5, 10, even 15 years – so I knew it must be a pretty happy place to be. I’ve been with the Edge for 6 years now, the first 5 of those as a Producer, and I now head up the in-house Development team. 

When we tender for film projects the Development team work closely with clients and our in-house creatives. We help generate ideas, write them clearly into documents and then help present our solutions to clients face-to-face. We are also on hand to help navigate client procurement issues.

The Development Department is more than just about winning work – it’s about understanding our clients needs, their challenges and being a consistent, familiar contact. It’s an extremely rewarding position, bringing new challenges every minute.

Outside of work I concentrate on my other job, being a mum to 16-month-old Grace.  Grace’s dad and I married earlier this year, and we live in Stoke Newington in North-East London. I’m from Nottingham originally and have been living in London for 13 years, and finally it feels like home to me now that I have my own family and a job that I adore.
